Precipitated Chalk, or Calcium Carbonate to give it it's chemical name, is extremely good for reducing acidity in wines. This treatment can significantly reduce the acidity of those wines made with fruits that have a higher acid content. This would also work for ciders, which will have a high acid content and also to reduce the sharpness in darker beers where a smoother flavour is required. Causes a foam as gas is given up by the chalk as it neutralizes some of the acid. Available in 50 and 100g tubs.
